Dr. Lisa Helton, founder and CEO of American Education International (AEI),brings a lifetime of experience, passion, and vision to our mission of providing high-quality, personalized education. With a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s in Educational Administration, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership (K–12), Dr. Lisa is both a scholar and a practitioner dedicated to transformative learning.
We believe homeschooled students thrive when given both structure and freedom. At American Education International, our philosophy begins with knowing each student personally—academically, developmentally, and relationally. We seek to meet students at their true level of readiness, providing instruction that is appropriately challenging without being overwhelming, so learning is both meaningful and attainable.
We recognize that students grow through distinct developmental stages, and that what is essential at one stage may look different at another. For this reason, our approach is intentionally designed to address what students need most at each level, while also offering what is excellent—the knowledge, skills, habits, and experiences that help them truly thrive. As students mature, we adjust expectations, depth, and complexity to support both growth and confidence.
Our commitment is to ensure every student builds strong foundations in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, with all students working on level or progressing beyond it academically. Social studies plays a vital role in helping students understand the world, their place within it, and the ideas, cultures, and systems that shape human life. Through history, civics, geography, and cultural studies, students learn to think critically, reason thoughtfully, and engage responsibly as citizens and leaders.
At the same time, we believe education is not merely about mastering subjects, but about the formation of the whole person. For this reason, relationships are central to everything we do. We intentionally partner with families, building close, trust-filled connections that allow us to understand each child’s strengths, needs, interests, and aspirations. By knowing students and their families well, we are able to use our knowledge, experience, and gifts in education to add the greatest possible value—academically, intellectually, and personally.
We also believe learning should inspire wonder. Alongside academic excellence, we intentionally expose students to new ideas, disciplines, and experiences so they develop curiosity, confidence, and a genuine love of learning. Through meaningful, real-world learning opportunities, students are encouraged to explore, ask questions, and discover how their education connects to the world around them.
